Making the decision to come see one of our allergy and asthma specialists is an important first step toward taking charge of your health. At AAPRI, we’re committed to doing everything we can to get to the root cause of your symptoms so we can provide the best treatment possible. We have 3 convenient Rhode Island office locations in East Providence, Lincoln, and Warwick. Here’s what you can expect at your first appointment with us.

At your initial consultation
First and foremost, we listen to your concerns about the symptoms that have brought you into our office. Your provider will ask you questions about these symptoms as well as other questions about your overall medical history. This evaluation will include questions about your:
- General health
- Family history, particularly as it relates to asthma and allergies
- Current symptoms: how often they occur and what seems to trigger them and aggravate them
- Environment and activities at home, work, and any other places you spend time
- Lifestyle and eating habits
Physical exam and diagnostic testing
Next, your provider will perform a physical exam and determine what further diagnostic testing is needed. Some tests such as breathing tests may be performed the day of your initial consultation, but most testing needs to be scheduled for a later date. Your provider will discuss with you what these recommended tests are for, what you should expect and how to prepare for them (if necessary), as well as answer any questions you may have. Our testing procedures include:
- Pulmonary function testing including spirometry
- Scratch/prick and intradermal testing
- Patch tests
- Blood tests
- Methacholine challenge
- Nasal endoscopy
- Exercise challenge
