Blood Testing for Allergies
At AAPRI, we seek to provide you with the best in patient care. This includes giving you the most appropriate testing to provide you with an accurate, timely diagnosis. Allergy blood tests help us determine what triggers your allergic reactions, causing uncomfortable symptoms. Our staff will work closely with you to determine if blood testing is the best choice for your diagnostic allergy needs.
Advantages of blood testing for allergies
Blood testing can show us how well your allergy treatment, such as allergy drop treatment or allergy shots, is working. Unlike skin testing, blood testing does not require patient to stop using antihistamines beforehand — a key advantage for patients with constant hives, severe eczema, or who are dermographic. Perhaps most important, blood testing allows the allergic reaction to occur outside the body, so there is no risk of side effects or reactions on the part of the patient.
Types of allergy blood testing
At AAPRI, we offer several types of allergy blood tests to identify allergy triggers. In addition to the traditional food allergy blood test, we can also conduct a Food Inflammation Test (FIT), which measures potential food intolerance and sensitivity reactions for up to 22 most common foods and additives, and/or an Alletess blood test, which measures food allergy and sensitivity via your IgE and IgG antibody level and response. (Please check with your insurance to see which tests are covered.)
How do allergy blood tests work?
Blood tests for allergies detect the amount of allergen-specific antibodies in your blood. Your body produces these antibodies in response to an allergen, so if the antibody is there, we know you’re having an allergic response.
