We are proud to be the first practice in the RI market to offer Allergy Drops, formally known as sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT), as an alternative to traditional allergy shot therapies.
Sick of daily medications…
Don’t have the time to commit to shots…
Hate needles……
Want to feel “normal” again?
Sublingual immunotherapy, commonly referred to as “allergy drops” is a great option. With allergy drops, desensitization is accomplished by repeatedly introducing the allergen as a drop under the tongue working towards building tolerance to your common allergic triggers, and ultimately helping reduce allergy and asthma symptoms.
Immunotherapy, shots or drops, has been in practice for many years. Injection treatment is the standard practice in United States. Due to time restraints, fear of or dislike of needles, and risk of reaction, it is underutilized as a treatment option by many patients and has a large drop-out rate. In Europe, sublingual immunotherapy, what we commonly refer to as “allergy drops” is common. The sublingual immunotherapy has the advantage of being a home treatment, very low risk of reaction and convenient, as well as having many of the advantages of the allergy shots. The World Health Organization (WHO) has endorsed allergy drops as an alternative to allergy shots.
Studies have noted reduced symptoms, need for medications, and risk of progressing to asthma with immunotherapy including allergy drops.
Allergy drops benefit patients with allergies, asthma, recurrent sinus infections, eczema and even food allergies. Children like it.
Mold allergy, a common complaint, often responds better to allergy drops.
Treatment regimens are individualized. Typically, patients start with an initial allergy consultation and then testing. Learn more about this option and contact our allergy drop team.
